Bid and Play 3NT

Updated: Dec 4, 2021

A bridge hand

  1. You are South. You open 1♣. West overcalls 1♦. North partner makes a negative DBL. What should you rebid?

  2. You become the declarer in 3NT. West leads a diamond. You win with your king. Are you pessimistic or optimistic? Should you take a risk or play it safe? How should you play?

Gino's Suggestion and a Short Explanation

  1. Rebid 3NT or make a game forcing cuebid, 2♦. Do not rebid 3♣ which is not a forcing bid.

  2. Be optimistic. Hope that the club suit works. Make the percentage play in clubs. Cross to dummy’s ♥K and lead the ♣10. Finesse against East’s ♣Q.
