Declarer Problem #11

A bridge hand

South is the dealer. Bid the N/S hands. Can you employ Bergen Raises?

In 4♥, you are South the declarer. West leads a club. East plays the ♣J. You win.

You play 2 rounds of trump (West has 3, East 1).

  1. Which suit should you play next? Why?

  2. How should you play clubs?

Solution:

1♥-3♣-4♥

1. Quickly eliminate the spade loser in dummy. Play 4 rounds of diamonds. On the 4th round, discard a spade.

2. Lead a club from North. Finesse against East’s ♣Q.
