Sisters in Action ♠️❤️🔶♣️

The following deal arose in the European teams youth championship. The two Vinnevich sisters: Hadassah (13 years old), and Naomi (11 years old), members of the Israeli youth team in the 'under 16' category, demonstrating top level partnership bidding with the N/S hands in '2 over 1' system:

The Auction:

Explanation of the Bidding:

1S: An aggressive opening bid following the 'Rule of 20'

2H: 2 over 1 response, showing 5+ hearts and game forcing strength

2S: Opener's default rebid showing minimum with no rebid and may contain 5 spades only according to partnership's agreements.

3H: A key rebid showing 6+ hearts . In '2 over 1', rebids below game are forcing with unlimited strength, suggesting hearts as the best partnership's strain.

3NT: No fit

4D: An expert rebid, showing an 'impossible suit'. By rebidding 3H in the second round, North denies a real diamond suit. Thus, rebidding 4D in the third round is an artificial bid showing slam interest in the last suit bid, hearts. The choice of diamonds vs. clubs here has to do with bidding controls 'up the line'. In popular style, 4D shows a first- or second-round control in diamonds and denying one in clubs, the suit skipped (First-round control: Ace or void; Second-round control: king or singleton).

4H: Minimum. I do not want to play slam in hearts.

Pass: ok!

After an aggressive opening, the two sisters managed to stop in game where many pairs reached slam and failed. They have done so using top level communication and mutual understanding of the '2 over 1' system, but most of all using TRUST. The U16 Israeli team managed to qualify to the world championships. The sisters had 2 coaches this year who are brothers :) Eldad & Itamar Ginossar. Great proud for us 🤠
