Play 4♠ #2

Updated: Apr 12, 2022

A bridge hand

You are South, the declarer in 4♠. West leads the ♦J. Your queen holds. You play a heart. West wins with the ♥A and plays another diamond.

How should you play? You play Matchpoints.

Gino's Suggestion and a Short Explanation

The plan: Promote hearts. Then draw trump, finishing in North’s hand with many heart winners.

Win with the ♦A. Cross to dummy’s ♠A/K. Ruff a heart in your hand (ruff high). Play a high spade from hand. Play the third round of spades to dummy’s remaining ♠A/K.

Hope to make 11 or 12 tricks when both suits, hearts and spades, break 3-2.
